BCS Bowl Game Predictions

The Bowl Championship Series, more commonly known as the BCS, has been criticized by almost every American sports fan. This abomination of a system was a topic of concern for President Barack Obama during a point of United States economic turmoil. You, I and our President may not like this setup but there is nothing we can do about it, considering the television contracts for these games go for eternity. With that said, here are my predictions for the five BCS Bowl Games.

BCS National Championship
This game features the BCS ranked number one team versus the BCS ranked number two team. In past years this game has been excellent and this year should not be an exception. At the end of day, the Florida Gators and the Texas Longhorns will be playing for the championship. Both teams have top quarterbacks and superb defenses. The Gators who are led by Tim Tebow will be looking for their third championship in the past four years. The Longhorns led by quarterback Colt McCoy are on a quest to win their first ever BCS National Championship. Come January 7, 2010 the Gators will win this high scoring shootout because of Tebow’s experience and unbelievable talent.

Rose Bowl
“The Granddaddy of Them All” as it is known showcases the Big Ten Conference Champion and the Pacific Ten Champion. The University of Southern California (USC) seems to be in the Bowl every single year and in 2010 they will be in it once again. I also feel that Penn State will also play in this game making it a rematch of last year’s game. Even thought the Nittany Lions have one loss, the rest of their schedule is quite easy so as long as there are no upsets they will be in this game. Come game time the Trojans, led by freshman quarterback Matt Barkley, will dominate in the game of field position and win this defense struggle.

Orange Bowl
This matchup must have the ACC Champion, and then any other team can qualify. The game will have Miami (FL) versus the at large team of Boise State. Miami has a fairly easy schedule and Boise State has an even easier one. In order for Boise State to win this game they are going to have to play a near flawless game. Miami will make you pay if you turn the ball over, so the Broncos must eliminate them at all costs. In my opinion, Boise State is way too high up in the rankings and they have not faced a top twenty five opponent besides Oregon in week one. On January 5th do not expect another Bowl Game miracle for Boise State; they will get beat down badly against a much better Hurricanes team.

Sugar Bowl
This game features the SEC Champion or a BCS team against another BCS ranked team. According to my scenario of these games, the game will have two BCS teams because the SEC Champion will be Florida and they will be playing for the National Championship. The matchup will have the Alabama Crimson Tide against the Cincinnati Bearcats. The Bearcats do not deserve this game but they will get in because of the inflated undefeated season they will have. They do not play a top twenty five team the rest of the season but based on the BCS point system they will get into this elite Bowl Game. Even though Cincinnati will get in they will be running into a tough Alabama team, who is going to have something to prove after not getting into the National Championship Game. The Crimson Tide will come out firing in this game and defeat the inferior Bearcats by a large margin.

Fiesta Bowl
This game includes the Big 12 Champion or BCS ranked team against another BCS ranked team. Based on my format, Texas, the Big 12 Champion will be playing in the National Championship, so this game will include two BCS teams. These teams are the Texas Christian (TCU) Horned Frogs against the Louisiana State (LSU) Tigers. On paper this is probably the least intriguing bowl game, however, this is going to be one people remember. TCU, led by Junior Quarterback Andy Dalton, will go into the University of Phoenix Stadium and deliver a huge thrilling upset. The stage is perfectly set LSU is by far the better team, but the relentlessness of TCU will pay off with the Fiesta Bowl Trophy.

You, me and Barack Obama may still despise the Bowl Championship Series but it is something we must deal with whether we like it or not. This year’s BCS Bowl games will be great and until next year, people may actually think the system currently instituted is pretty entertaining. As the college football season comes to a close, get ready for an exciting few weeks of intense football regardless of the way it is set up.
