Fernando Martinez was the New York Mets number one prospect for the last two years. The Mets signed Martinez at age eighteen out of high school. Last week after the Mets placed Ryan Church and Jose Reyes on the DL, they called up Martinez who was hitting .291 with 8 home runs, 28 RBI’s and 21 runs with AAA Buffalo. Since being called up Martinez has had 19 at bats and is hitting .211 with 3 RBI’s, 2 runs and 2 stolen bases with the Mets. Although Martinez is off to a rough start, he has showed signs as to why he was the number one prospect for the Mets. In his last three games he is 4 for 11 with 2 runs and 2 stolen bases. Martinez will be a centerpiece in the Mets offense for many years to come as long as he stays healthy. Mets fans hope that he will not only help the Mets out in the future but also the present.Josh Jakers
